The province is not closing its border with New Brunswick.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang affirmed the province’s position at Wednesday’s COVID-19 update.
Doctor Strang says there isn’t community spread in that province; all cases related to the outbreaks are connected to previous ones.
“When we have a case of COVID in a household, we fully expect that other people in the household are going to turn positive, so what they’re seeing is what’s expected,” he says. “What they’re not seeing, fortunately, is unexplained cases.”
Doctor Strang says it’s a reminder of how easily COVID-19 can come back into our communities, even with virus levels as low as they are now.
He says, regardless, he’s confident unrestricted travel between the provinces can continue with little risk.
“There’s nothing to suggest that if you or I travel to Moncton or to Campbellton tomorrow, or we were there over Thanksgiving, that we’re putting ourselves at any increased risk of COVID exposure at this time.”
He says they will continue to assess the situation and will modify their response as the situation requires.
