It’s been a busy few days for Nova Scotia’s Minister of Justice “My main role has been communicating with government bodies from around the country to make sure we have the resources needed” say Minister Mark Furey.
Furey served in the RCMP for 32 years and spoke about the challanges this investigation has “If you can imagine the complexities of one homicide scene, then multiply that by eighteen you can begin to appreciate the scope of this investigation.”
He adds that the sheer size of the manhunt and following investigation would mean police officers almost certainly have and may still need to ignore phsical distancing rules in order to complete their duties.
Both he and provincial health authorities are in agreement that these situations warrant circumventing the guidelines.
The combination of COVID-19 and the weekends shootings leaves Nova Scotians in a dark place but Furey sees light at the end of the tunnel ” These are unprecededented, unimaginaable circumstances that we are facing. With COVID-19 and this tragedy Nova Scotians are broken but I know that Nova Scotians are resilient and will get through this.
