A different approach for the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada during today’s COVID-19 (Monday) update.
Dr. Theresa Tam began by offering condolences to the families of the victims of the shooting in Nova Scotia.
She provided the latest numbers before adding that she wants to speak about people, thoughts, and feelings rather than data because our actions will dictate how the country emerges from this pandemic.
“36,216 confirmed cases, including 1,611 deaths. We’ve been testing around 20,000 persons per day in the last few days”
There have been 555,000 Canadians tested to date.
Dr. Tam says our shared sense of pain is helping get through the pandemic “together, apart” .
“From balconies in Italy to a virtual student choir in Newfoundland and Labradour singing “Oh, Canada”, to the world of entertainers and front line workers coming together in solidarity this past weekend for the One World At Home Concert, we are not alone.”
She says it’s of utmost importance to take time to reflect, and to focus on positivity because our actions will dictate how the country emerges from this pandemic.
