There are now four presumptive cases and one confirmed case of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Nova Scotia.
Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health announced that the two newest cases are in Halifax Regional Municipality and are related, a male and female, both in their 50’s, who were in close contact with individuals who had recently travelled outside the country.
He also said that two other individuals in the household are also now in self-isolation and being tested.
Dr. Strang gave an update on the situation in the province.
“One of the ones we anounced yesterday is now a confirmed case, so it’s probably within the twenty-four to forty-eight hour period that we announce a presumptive case, we’ll get them come back as confirmed.”
He says his department will continue to keep Nova Scotians up-to-date.
“Every day, we’ll be updating the numbers of people who have been tested, the number of negatives, number of positives, presumptive positives, and now we’re going to be reporting on the number of confirmed positive.”
Individuals are considered “presumptive’ if they have tested positive but the results still haven’t been confirmed by the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg.
