Tuesday’s announcement for the provincial government’s capital plan for 2020-2021 included a mention of two previously announced CSAP schools slated for the Tri-Counties.
Superintendent Michel Comeau says things are moving along for the new Ecole Wedgeport.
“It’s my understanding that final preparations are being made for the purchase of the land necessary to build a new school adjacent to the old one and, in addition, I think, design is underway and will largely be based on the new elementary school in Bible Hill.”
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill confirmed that the department is ready to go as soon as the land is purchased.
Comeau says a decision has been made on the location of the new elementary school in Clare.
“At their last meeting in January, the board finalized the choice of the site. It will be the old Ecole Jean-Marie Gay site in Saulnierville and my understanding is that there’s a little bit of land acquisition that will need to be made to accommodate the new school and, in addition, design efforts are now underway.
The design will be based on the new Yarmouth Elementary School but a bit larger.
