The Universite Sainte-Anne has announced a new chancellor.
University President and Vice-Chancellor Allister Surette says Noël Després’ background makes him an excellent fit for the role.
“A chancellor for a university is an honourary position that supports the role of the President at either formal events or, in many cases the major fundraising at universities, so, with Noël Després’ background, obviously it’d be a great support to myself to move the university forward.”
Surette says they chose him for the position for several reasons.
“Noël is very well-known in the business community in this region and in Nova Scotia, maybe even abroad, but also for his many roles in terms of community support and, with the university, he’s had numerous roles, he’s been chair of our board and he was chair of the alumni association.”
Mr. Després is President and Chief Executive Officer of Comeau’s Sea Foods, and President of the Fisheries Safety Association of Nova Scotia and has served on many boards.
He is also very active in the community as a member of the Clare Health Centre Foundation and a former vice-president of the Clare Acadian Festival, as has been involved in various organizations that benefit the region’s youth, including the Clare Preschool.
