It’s an 80’s Extravaganza tonight in Halifax, as Corey Hart plays what is now the Scotiabank Centre (I still call it the Metro Centre occasionally, forever dating me). Glass Tiger is opening. That is a trip back in time that I would love to see. And if it weren’t on a Tuesday…..
I have loved Corey’s music since his very 1st Album came out. He stopped performing and releasing music in the 90’s, choosing to forgo his career in order to raise his children and be a family man; another thing I admired about him. He did continue to write and produce for others.
There’s a story that Corey told about his very first piece of Fan Mail. This would be 1983, as he was just becoming an international star because of “Sunglasses at Night”. Corey is sitting with a huge pile of mail and randomly picked one to open. It was from a 16 year old girl from Halifax, who said that she hoped to meet him before she was “old and grey”.
Flash forward a couple of years to 1985, when Corey played Halifax. He reached out to the girl and called her out onstage with him that evening. Unfortunately a reunion tonight won’t be possible – that fan passed away about a decade ago.
If you’re headed to the concert tonight, be sure to take some pictures and send them along! I’d love to see them.
