The Junior High students of Shelburne Regional High School are hosting a Heritage Fair this coming Thursday in the school Gymnasium.
Teacher Kristin Hawboldt tells Acadia News about this year’s theme.
“So this year we opted to focus on World War 1, with a more in-depth focus on Shelburne County; so what kind of role did Shelburne County, as a whole, play within it and let the kids have the opportunity to research some of their relatives”
Hawboldt says the students had to do interviews and research about their own families.
“One of the first things we made them do was conduct an interview with a family member to try to find ‘is there a connection anywhere in my family’ , so is there someone, whether it’s by blood, by marriage, is there a connection I can make to my family and from there we could access their service records because they’re all public domain now”
The 120 or so grade 7, 8, and 9 students have been working on their projects since early January.
The Heritage Fair will be open to the public from 1:10-3:00PM.
