Two professors at Université Sainte-Anne will team up in a lab to do research aimed at assisting Nova Scotia’s growing wine industry.
Nearly $300,000 in funding will build the spaces and provide resources needed for Karine Pedneault’s and Gustavo Leite’s (Lee Tay’s) research activities.
Dr. Pedneault says the research is important to this growing industry.
She tells CJLS News, she realized that while working at the famous E & J Gallo Winery in California.
“That was my first job, after my PhD, so I was right away into the industry thinking we need to be efficient, we need to improve the processes.”
The data collected during production will allow researchers to better understand berry and wine chemical composition, which are important quality indicators.
Pedneault explains why this research is important to this growing industry.
“We want to have an industry that is very productive, that we can make money with, we need the growers to have a good performance in the field and, second thing is that we need to bring our wine to the international level.”
Her focus will be on berry ripening while Professor Gustavo Leite’s (Lee-Tay) will work on generating wild yeast.
