The Royal Canadian Legion has kicked off their Poppy Campaign for 2018.
People can start picking up poppies and wearing them today and up until the end of Remembrance Day.
Adrienne Speck, Poppy Chair for this year’s Legion Branch 61 Yarmouth campaign tells CJLS News there is no monetary price for a poppy.
“It’s not a sale. It’s definitely a donation. If someone doesn’t have the money in their pocket, they can have a poppy. If they have something they want to donate, then fine, we accept it. We do not sell poppies.”
Speck says the Legions do sell wreaths. All of the money raised goes to help veterans and veterans’ families if they are in need of assistance.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood was on hand for the official launch, receiving one of the first poppies of the year.
