The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation showed off their new cannabis retail store today.
The Joseph Howe store in Halifax is the first NSLC location that is ready to go once cannabis becomes legal.
President and CEO of the NSLC Bret Mitchell says the stores are bright and welcoming and existing employees are being trained to sell the new products.

Customers will order over the counter and pay within the cannabis operation of the NSLC store.
Mitchell says to meet federal requirements, even accompanied minors will not be permitted in the cannabis section.
“We will have a host that will greet people and if someone is with them that is a child or looks under 30 we’ll politely ask them to come back at another time.”
Bridgewater is the only location which will sell pot between Yarmouth and Halifax.
Mitchell says work should begin on that store sometime in August and all 12 locations will be ready for legalization on October 17.
He expects the stores will stock around 75 varieties which will range in price.
“We have had no problem, quite frankly, getting access to supply. There is some hesitation whether all suppliers that have told us that they will be available will in fact be ready for October. So we have flexibility built in to our assortment model.”
Mitchell says there will be no local suppliers when the stores are launched, as they just aren’t ready.
But he anticipates that will change by next June.
