A new feature to the public alerting system is coming to Nova Scotia.
It will be tested for the first time on Wednesday May 9 at 1:55 p.m. as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.
EMO directer Paul Mason says that they have been doing these tests for about three years now only through radio TV .
“There is now a new functionality added to that system which now allows those alerts to be broadcast also on wireless devices.”
The alert could be a warning of anything from a flood to a wildfire.
As usual the alert will be broadcast on radio and television but it will also send a sound and message to your phone.
” So its a more refined way of alerting people you can be more so you can be more specific in a geographic as to where you want those alerts to go.” said Mason.
The program is led by Pelmorex Weather Networks Inc.
