The cause of a fire that displaced 10 people from their home last night in Yarmouth has been determined to be accidental.
Yarmouth Fire Department Platoon Chief Stephen Jeffery says that the Yarmouth Town RCMP were told by a tenant of the apartment building at 106 Main Street that smoking materials were the likely cause.
The fire was mostly confined to one unit but sent smoke throughout a two-storey building.
One person received minor injuries.
In a release, the Red Cross says volunteers arranged emergency lodging for a woman in her 70’s from the apartment where the fire began, and were arranging additional support today.
It says tenants of the other units found places to stay with relatives or friends until they’re able to return home.
The Yarmouth Fire Department responded to the call around 9pm.
The Port Maitland Fire Department was also called in.
