An outdoor ball hockey arena in Yarmouth will soon be taken down for the winter months.
The Play On! Arena was installed on an asphalt pad at Mariners Centre in August.
The arena had been in storage at the centre since 2013, when Yarmouth hosted the national street hockey tournament.
Yarmouth Recreation Director Frank Grant says they’ve had over 80 bookings.
“Probably at least that in just drop in visits. That’s something we’ve always encouraged people to do, but if you see a booking on the list that’s on the boards, that does take priority.”
Grant says they were hoping to have it up all winter, but snow removal and the condition of the boards is a concern.
“We had good intentions to leave it up all year-round, but we are going to err on the side of caution and safety and put it away for the winter.”
He says the arena will be taken down sometime late next week, and will be re-installed sometime in April.
Grant hopes that more leagues and tournaments will take place on the pad next year.
