While Nova Scotians are primarily concerned with how the Yarmouth to Portland ferry impacts the province, it’s effects are felt on both shores.
Greg Mitchell is Economic Development Director with the City of Portland.
He says the increased traffic through Portland by tourists coming off and on the ferry has been a boon to the city’s retail and hospitality industries.
Mitchell says they’re looking at the possibility of increasing the number of days the ferry will be in port next year.
“We’re already having those discussions with the operator as to how best to accommodate continuation of the service going forward.”
Mitchell is very optimistic the service will be able to build on the 40,000 people it transported this year.
