A realtor’s for sale sign is now on the south side of the building after the town and Somerled Properties terminated an agreement.
The purchase and sale agreement was signed last fall, and would have seen the property sold to the development firm.
Mayor Pam Mood says both sides mutually agreed to walking away, and says Somerled didn’t see the property lining up with their vision.
Mood says there are still many possibilities for that building.
“There’s always the housing piece, institutions for education would be absolutely amazing. There’s just a million things that could happen there. It’s just going to take one person to say I’m here and I’m going to do it.”
In a statement, Somerled says they have many other properties in Yarmouth and hope to add more projects in the near future.
The building became the responsibility of the town in December, 2014 when the Tri-County Regional School Board determined that the building was a surplus to their needs.
It closed its doors as a high school in June 2012.
