A Yarmouth man won a marathon Sunday.
Bryan Hipson placed first at the Johnny Miles Marathon in New Glasgow with a time of two hours, 52 minutes and 36 seconds.
He finished just 27 seconds ahead of 11 time Johnny Miles winner Dave MacLennan.
Hipson says he and MacLennan were neck-and-neck the whole race.
“He’s tough. It’s hard to predict what he’s going to do. It was tough to work out a strategy, because it doesn’t always play out.”
But Hipson says he powered through to win his first Johnny Miles event.
“By kilometre 35 he was really close, 100 metres ahead. I didn’t fly by him, but I passed him at kilometre 38 and stayed ahead until the finish.”
Up next for Hipson, the Sheila Poole 10k in Yarmouth on July 15th.
He has won that event two years in a row.
Hipson will then prepare for an Ironman race in Mont Tremblant, Quebec.
