An Irving Oil official says recently acquired storage facilities, including ones in Yarmouth and Bridgewater, means the company
will have a reliable supply of heating oil.
Irving also purchased facilities in Port Hawkesbury and New Glasgow.
The large tanks hold gasoline, diesel and home heating oil.
Irving Oil’s Chief Operating Officer, Mark Sherman says it was part of a broader acquisition that Irving did with Valero.
“For us it adds about 21,000 barrels of total capacity, close to 6,000 barrels in Yarmouth specifically. Across the province that’s the equivalent of
about 7,000 that we will be serving.”
Sherman says for Irving Oil it’s a commitment that the heating oil supply is available.
“An $80 million dollar project on the Dartmouth side of Halifax Harbour with a new storage facility there. We bring heating oil from our Saint John refinery. This is all part of that supply chain.
He says when the Imperial Oil refinery in Dartmouth closed in 2013, heating oil was at some risk of not being available in the province.
