All drones weighing between 250 grams and 35 kilograms can’t fly higher than 90 metres, or at night, or within nine kilometres of an existing airport.
The new rules say the machines can’t operate within 75 metres of buildings, vehicles or people.
Ken Pothier likes what he sees so far.
“Do we agree with all of the rules the way they oame out ? Probably Not. But our objective of course is to maintain safe skies and to integrate any new users of air space into those skies in a safe manner.”
Pothier says he understands drone operators are concerned about the amount of restricted airspace.
“I would hope that there would be some wiggle room there, some compromise in the future”
Pothier thinks there should be some type of certification program for drone operators, possibly through an online course.
