The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners needed overtime to get past the division rival Ramblers tonight at the Fishtank.
Patrick Daley scored 3:10 into the extra frame as the Mariners defeated Amherst 2-1 in front of 1,200 fans at Mariners Centre.
Daley found a loose puck and tucked it by Rambler goalie Joel Goguen to give Yarmouth two points, and their 18th win on home ice this year.
Daley says he’s enjoyed his time in Yarmouth since coming over from St. Stephen at the deadline.
“It’s everything I thought it would be. I really like the guys and the team we have, the team is really fast. I think we’re going to go for a long (playoff) run.”
Luc Poirier tied the game shorthanded in the second period after the Ramblers scored a late first period powerplay goal.
Leif Hertz got his 24th win of the season, making 27 saves.
The Mariners now lead the Eastlink South Division by three points over South Shore and eight points over Amherst.
Yarmouth and Amherst meet again tomorrow night at Mariners Centre.
Mariners Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says fans should expect a similar game tomorrow.
“The intensity will be there. There isn’t a lot of love between the two teams. The fans will be treated to another dandy I’m sure.”
