Work on the 100-year-old Arcadia Bridge in Yarmouth County is in full swing.
The bridge, on Trunk 3, is down to one lane and temporary traffic lights have been installed.
Brian Taylor, a spokesperson with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal in Halifax says the contractor will be doing the job in sections.
"Crews down there have installed a large wall to control the tidal water and while they do that they're installing a new structure. They're going to do it one piece at a time so once the new structure is in place you'll start seeing one lane of traffic flow over that and they'll remove the detour bridge.'
He says then the second half will be done, finishing the project then traffic will return to two lanes and site clean-up will take place..
Taylor says they hope to have the it completed by mid to late November.
The cost of the project is approximately $1.48 million.
