The J-Strong Foundation raised another $13,000 over the weekend.
The organization, which helps kids access sports in Yarmouth County held the second annual J-Strong Softball Tournament at the Hebron Recreation Complex.
20 teams took part, and helped surpass last season’s total of $6,500.
Foundation member Steve Berry says it wasn’t just the baseball community that supported them this weekend.
“We had a lot of people come out and take part in a Chinese auction, the 50/50 draw, and people were out around the fields enjoying the games. It was just a great weekend of softball.”
Berry says the funds will be used to help kids access sports.
“If anyone needs support, they can get up to $300 per child as long as you’re from the Yarmouth area and enrolled in school. We are hoping to do a roll-out soon with minor hockey coming up.”
The teams were mostly made up of Yarmouth Co-ed Slopitch League squads, they played in three divisions.
Grip N’ Rip won the A Division, Rodd’s Grand Slammers took the B Division and Scotia Garden won Division C.
The J-Strong Foundation was formed after the death of Yarmouth teen Jadon Robinson in 2015.
Robinson was a standout football player and loved all things sports.
