The Yarmouth Mariners continue to sit comfortably atop the MHL’s Eastlink South Division.
They remain seven points up on second place Amherst following a 7-3 win tonight over the Campbellton Tigers at Mariners Centre.
After taking a 3-1 lead in the first, the Tigers tied the game with two quick goals in the second, one of those goals was questionable, as it didn’t appear to cross the goal line.
However, the goal stood and the Mariners fought back with four answered goals, three of them in the middle frame.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says his team showed resilience.
“Good for them for rebounding. Sometimes in that situation, you get off the rails a little bit, but offensively we were very good tonight.”
Andrew Martell scored twice and was named the game’s first star, Aaron Maillet, Matt Barron, Chris Gorehan, Matt Smith and Derrick Johnson also scored.
Leif Hertz stopped 22 shots.
The win was Yarmouth’s 20th on home ice this year.
Barron says Mariners Centre has been good to them.
“It’s the friendly confines that’s for sure. It’s a comfortable place to play in, and the boys have answered the bell.”
Yarmouth will be back in action next Saturday night against the Summerside Western Capitals at the Fishtank.
They have just four regular season games left.
