Do you know the level of radon gas in your home ?
If you don’t then you’re not alone.
The Lung Association of Nova Scotia is trying to raise awareness about radon gas, which is called the silent killer.
Last November they offered free radon test kits to 500 Nova Scotians who live in areas where radon is known to be high.
Those areas included South Western Nova Scotia.
Robert MacDonald, the interim CEO of the lung association, says the results so far show about 50% of the homes were actually over the recommended guidelines.
“It is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Every day I get phone calls or emails from people wanting to know more.”
He says the best way is to test your home.
Radon gas has no smell and is invisible.
