Nova Scotia RCMP are asking you to plan ahead before going out New Year's Eve.

Some people will bring in the new year at home, at friends or at dances.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke says there will be an increased police presence on the roads.

"Absolutely. We will certainly be out on News Year's Eve and as we are a lot of times. Impaired driving is certainly a priority for the RCMP as we enforce impaired driving laws and we certainly hope to see people driving safely."

Clarke says the simplest thing you can do to prevent impaired driving is to have a plan to get home before you leave for your party.

She says you can call a cab, ask someone to serve as a designated driver or even walk home.

RCMP are also asking the public to look out for drunk drivers.

If you do spot someone you think may be driving while impaired you're asked to take note of the vehicle's license plate, description and location and call 911.
