A Nova Scotia Legion official has nothing but praise for members of the former Legion branch in Port Maitland.
The branch has officially turned over its charter to the provincial command, one of many smaller legion branches across the country that have dissolved.
Don McCumber, the Zone 12 commander of the Royal Canadian Legion says Port Maitland members developed a plan to dispose of their assets.
“Last night they turned over their Poppy Account funds to the Wedgeport Legion for use for veterans needs.”
The cheque was for over $2600.
McCumber says the Port Maitland legion members will make a final presentation Sunday afternoon at a Zone 12 meeting in Wedgeport.
They have also donated to the Port Maitland-Beaver River Cemetery, the Port Maitland School, the Memorial Club, to the three cadet corps in Yarmouth, painted signs at Veterans’s Place and donated a commercial toaster.
McCumber also had praise for the past and last president Gary Bullerwell and past treasurer Brian Smith who he said worked very hard.
