Fredericton resident Justin McLean lives in one of the buildings near where Friday's shooting occurred.
He tells Acadia News he awoke to the sound of gunshots and tells our reporter Brad Perry that's when instinct kicked in.
"I didn't, myself, feel like I was in danger. I just wanted to help as much as I could and get the heck out of there. I have never heard of nothing like this in Fredericton."
He tells us he is trying to come to grips with what's happening in his own neighbourhood.
"I just, I don't know what to think. I probably need to some help after this. I'm very shocked. Very shocked." McLean says.
There are reports of several people being treated in hospital.
A news conference with Fredericton's Mayor Mike O'Brien and Fredericton Police Chief Leanne Fitch is coming up at 3:30 pm Atlantic.
