Nova Scotia Power technicians continue to brave cold temperatures and bitterly cold wind chills to restore power to those still without electricity.

They've been at it since Christmas Day when a storm carrying powerful winds snapped power poles, felled trees and broke power lines.

One of the worst hit areas was in our region.

Nova Scotia Power spokesperson Tiffany Chase says they understand it's been a real hardship for people.

"We certainly know that it's been a challenging time this week for customers that still haven't had their power restored. We continue to have a round-the-clock effort"

Chase says they were hoping to get service to restored to most people by late yesterday afternoon but that has been revised to 11:30 tonight.

"Particularly in Western Nova Scotia, arriving to outage locations and finding much more severe damage than was anticipated. We're seeing multiple trees on multiple sections of a line, broken poles. All of those kinds of repairs take longer than some of our other outage fixes."
