The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners trimmed their training camp roster last night.
This was after Team Blue beat Team Grey 6-3 in intersquad action.
Mariners Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says 12 players were cut after the game.
None of those players were on the roster last year.
Barron says he’s impressed with the compete level at camp.
“I think the guys all came in good shape and ready to go. Even the guys that aren’t staying can be proud of how they competed. It’s been a real nice surprise the way some of these kids have played.”
Several players remain in QMJHL camps, including forwards Cole Reginato and Brett Crossley ,as well as defenseman Hunter Drew.
Barron says it would be nice to have them in Yarmouth.
“We’re keeping our fingers crossed. Obviously for them, they want to stick with the Q clubs, but all three would be huge for us. We’re hoping to get all of them.”
The Mariners are now busy preparing for their first exhibition game.
That takes place tomorrow night on the road against the Valley Wildcats in Brooklyn, Hants County.
List of cuts:
Dawson McPhail, Luke Emin, John Ferrell, Jonah Vidito, Sean Tobin, Matt Duggan, Brady Crossley, Joe McLean, Hugh McHugh, Jacob Roberts, Kyler Lind and Jackson Thomas.
