An announcement on the location for a new arts centre in Yarmouth is expected soon.

Town Council met with stakeholders at Mariners Centre last night to discuss three potential sites, all in the downtown.

The old Odion Theatre, Visitor Information Centre site and the Collins Street parking lot were the areas identified.

Mayor Pam Mood says in order for there to be funding, they need to be on the same page as the Yarmouth Regional Arts Council.

"Even if we do all this work, we need to come to a model of governance that works for everybody. If we don't, we couldn't get funding for a project of this caliber."

YARC President Mitch Bonnar agrees, saying there needs to be some negotiations.

"Regardless of where it's built, the arts centre has been around for 40 years. We are not prepared to lose that. There needs to be some meaningful negotiations and I'm positive that can happen."

Bonnar says Th'YARC has always been accused of wanting the theatre to stay at its current location on Parade Street.

He says a new location would have to make sense.
