The 37th annual Acadian Festival in West Pubnico kicks off today.
For 6 days, the 'Chez-nous a Pombcoup will celebrate the rich Acadian history and heritage of the village.
The barony of Pubnico was founded on July 17, 1653 and Kathy Nickerson, program director at the Acadian Historical Village says there aren't many places in Canada that can celebrate over 360 years of history.
"We are known as the oldest village that is still Acadian. After the deportation, through a certain series of events, we were allowed to return to our land. Our ancestors founded this community."
There will be fireworks this evening at the Acadian Village at 10pm.
The West Pubnico Acadian Festival features a treasure hunt tomorrow night, Teddy Bear's Picnic and car rally on Tuesday and many other events through the week.
