Local teacher Josh Burke has created his first children’s book.
It’s based on his cat, having adventures around the Yarmouth area.
‘Jack the Cat’ is now available at select locations in town.
Burke says he made up an original story to help comfort his wife when she was feeling ill.
He then realized he could turn this into something.
After writing and illustrating the book, he needed to have a test audience.
Burke says students at his school in Plymouth loved the book.
“You never really see places that are local inside of books, especially that you read as a kid. So a lot of them got really excited in trying to guess where places were because a lot of the pictures bear similar visual images but I couldn’t use the images because of copyright issues.”
He says Jack’s next adventure could be on the horizon, possibly next Halloween.
Two dollars of every book sold is going to the Yarmouth SPCA.
Burke says Jack was once a stray cat, and the animal shelter is an important cause to he and his wife.
