The Wade’s Wire Traps/Five Star Roofing Bantam AA Mariners are hosting the Nova Scotia Mainland Bantam AA Hockey Championship starting today at Mariners Centre.
Teams from Acadia, Western Valley, South Shore, Antigonish, Truro, Pictou and Cumberland County are here for the three day event.
The Bantam AA Mariners had a great regular season, finishing second overall with 18 wins and 40 points in 28 games.
Head Coach Nick Bourque says his team will be ready.
“To win anything, you have to play as a team. If everyone is pulling on the same rope, we’re going to be heading in the right direction. We are itching to get going.”
Bourque says there are a lot of good local hockey players on the team.
“All of our kids are from Yarmouth County, except one who is from Barrington. It’s really high end hockey, right under Major Bantam. The Bantam AA’s aren’t too far behind them.”
The Mariners start off with a game against Antigonish this morning at 9 and play Truro tonight at 6:30.
Yarmouth will take on South Shore at 11:30 tomorrow morning and Cumberland at 5pm.
The semifinals start at 10:15am Sunday with the championship game at 2pm.
Two teams will qualify for provincials next month in Antigonish.
