Two Opposition MLA's Say Liberal Government Has Again Failed People In Shelburne County On Basic Health Care

The emergency room at Roseway Hospital is closed until 8am Saturday.

It was closed Wednesday for ten hours.

Shelburne-Queens MLA Kim Masland says the government must address the issue of physician availability, not just talk about it.

"I'm extremely concerned about what's going on at Roseway. This has been going on for about eight years and it's time it has to be addressed .w're going into a long weekend and here we are again with another unexpected closure. Our residents living in Shelburne County, if there were an emergency, would have to drive 45 minutes to Liverpool or drive to Yarmouth. This is not how health care is delivered in nova Scotia. "

Chris d'Entremont, the MLA for Argyle-Barrington, says they will hold Premier Stephen McNeil to his promise to improve healthcare delivery.

"It's totally unacceptable to think that one of our regional hospitals has an emergency room that's closed. This has been an ongoing problem for Roseway. Governments, the last two, have suggested that getting a clinic in place will solve that, yet we don't see the clinic in place yet. I know there's a lot of design work to be done but it's time to get on with it so we have the physicians available to work that emergency room."

Both MLA's say they will hold the Liberal government accountable until the situation is resolved.
