The provincial government is teaming up with the child care and recreation sectors to deliver before and after school pilot programs at 10 sites.
The programme will be based on the province’s new Let’s Get Moving Nova Scotia action plan, which is focused on physical activity and outdoor play.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill tells CJLS News they want to see if the programme can be expanded.
"This, of course, is really important to families, so they can access these important early learning opportunities and this pilot will help us see if this is a model that we can fully implement"
Families taking part in the pilot program will also have access to the government’s Child Care Subsidy Program if they meet the income threshold criteria.
The pilot program will run from January to June, when the pre-primary programs close for the summer.
