The 100+ women who care of Shelburne County are at it again.
The ladies got together recently to hear about local projects that need financial support and decided to help a kids summer camp become more accessible.
One of the organizers, Penny Smith, says they gave $9,700 to Camp Jordan.
She says it just goes to show what can be accomplished when women work together.
“We’re so pleased,” she says. “You know, we ‘re such a giving caring community and it certainly shows when you have this many women participating in this group.”
Smith says their next meeting is in September.
She says they’d love to see more women join their ranks by then.
Meanwhile, Camp Jordan Board Member, Dan Peacock says he feels blessed.
He says making the camp accessible will make a huge difference for kids living with disabilities.
“Camp was a very important part of my life. So, I know what it meant to me, just imagine what it would mean to a kid who can’t go to camp otherwise. Just a phenomenal experience.”
Peacock says the money will go towards ramps and bathroom renovations.
He’s also reaching out to the federal government in hopes of getting an investment from them.
He hopes to see a good chunk of the work completed this summer.
