The Yarmouth Mariners began their Eastlink South Division final series with a dominant performance over the South Shore Lumberjacks.
Logan Timmons had two goals and two assists to lead the Mariners over South Shore 6-3 in Game 1 tonight at Mariners Centre.
The sold out crowd were treated to a four goal second period by the Mariners that propelled them to victory.
Kyle Bergh, Patrick Daley, Andrew Martell and Matt Smith also scored for Yarmouth, and Leif Hertz stopped 30 shots for the win.
Mariners Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says the first ten minutes weren’t great, but after that, his club was ‘real good.’
“I thought we didn’t take our foot off the gas. Full marks to our six defensemen and 12 forwards, as well as Leif Hertz who was real solid. It was a real team effort.”
The Lumberjacks took five of the six regular season meetings between the clubs, including two games at Mariners Centre.
Barron says the playoffs are a ‘different animal.’
“We got to go through some adversity with Truro, I think it made us stronger. Obviously, we have a lot of work to do, that’s a great hockey club we’re playing. We have to find a way to go out on the road and get a big road win.”
The teams meet again in Game 2 Monday night in Bridgewater at 7pm.
