The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners faced adversity for the first time this season.
It was a rough weekend in New Brunswick, as the Mariners dropped games to Campbellton Friday and Miramichi Saturday.
That ended the season opening win streak at 12 games, the best start to a season in franchise history.
On Friday, the Tigers broke the streak with a 3-2 win.
Connor Peveril and Matt Warner had the Mariner goals and Leif Hertz made 38 saves in his first loss.
It was an ugly one in Miramichi Saturday as the Timberwolves hammered the Mariners 9-1.
Aaron Maillet scored the lone goal for Yarmouth in the second period to make it 3-1, but that’s as close as the Mariners could get.
Hertz allowed five goals on 21 shots in 33 minutes of work, and was then replaced by Brendan Cregan, who allowed four goals on 16 shots.
Mariners forwards Brodie Butt and Jordan Messenger were ejected for fighting in the third period.
On Twitter after Saturday’s blowout, Mariners Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron took responsibility for the loss.
I take responsibility for our two losses this weekend, coaches job is to have his team ready to play and we were not.

Yarmouth will hope to put that trip behind them as they host the Pictou County Weeks Crushers Friday night, note the start time, 8pm.
The Mariners will then travel to Amherst to face the Ramblers Saturday.
