Major renovations at the SPCA Shelter in Yarmouth are almost complete.

Work began almost a year ago at the facility on the Hardscratch Road which has transformed the shelter into a much-more user friendly environment.

SPCA spokesperson Karen deWolfe says there's a new hallway, four new cat rooms, a free-roam cat room, updated front lobby, community room and more.

"There's been a lot of improvements. Almost every surface has been touched. The staff are really loving the new space, the public has been very impressed and of course it helps us help more animals more efficiently and effectively. There's a few finishing touches like light switch covers and we need to get some kennels in but the major construction is complete."

deWolfe says people continue to be generous with their donations of items for the shelter.

She says things like cleaning supplies and non-clumping kitty litter are always appreciated.
