Beginning April 1, paramedics will become a self-regulating profession in Nova Scotia.
The College of Paramedics will oversee 1,400 plus paramedics in the province.
It will establish standards as well take responsibilty for its members.
The council will deal with complaints from the public and handle discipline.
The Legislature passed the Paramedics Act in 2015 to create the College of Paramedics.
The College received a one-time $350,000 subsidy from the province to establish itself.
After that, it will be financed through its members.
The College will be governed by a council composed of paramedics as well as members of the pubic.
