Five volunteer first responder organizations in our region will be buying some necessary safety equipment with the help of provincial funding.
More than $500,000 dollars in grants has been announced for 38 organizations throughout the province.
Eligible organizations can apply for up to 75 per cent of new safety equipment costs, to a maximum of 20-thousand dollars.
The West Pubnico Fire Department received almost $17,000.
Chief Gordon Amiro says it's for an air compressor.
"We used to have a local resident, John Pothier fill our tanks. But his compressor broke down, so we are using the money to buy our own."
Digby Ground Search and Rescue, Yarmouth County Ground Search and Rescue, Barrington-Port Latour Fire Department and the Ingomar-Roseway Fire Department also received grants.
