Wednesday December 6th is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
It's a day to remember the 14 women murdered at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989.
In Yarmouth, as in the past, The Tri-County Women's Centre, Juniper House, the NSGEU and other labour groups are hosting a special event to mark the solemn occasion.
Bernadette MacDonald with the Tri-County Women's Centre says violence against women continues to be a very serious issue around the world.
"Violence against women is very real in our society. Women suffer violence daily. Women get murdered in their homes. It's a very unfortunate reality."
People are asked to gather in front of Yarmouth Town Hall at 5pm Wednesday and a candlelight vigil will proceed into Frost Park.
