Rotating strikes are underway in western Nova Scotia and the South Shore with members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers locals picketing in front of post offices.
The strike locations include Yarmouth, Bridgewater and Liverpool.
Yarmouth Local 138 president Jeff Cook tells CJLS News what the main issues are.
“Over-burdening of our carriers and RSMC’s ( Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers). The changing of the business into more parcels than mail. There’s health and safety, there’s a lot of injuries to workers across the country. And Canada Post isn’t willing to negotiate, that’s one of the biggest issues.”
A mediator, appointed by the federal labour minister, had been working with both CUPW and Canada Post to reach an agreement, but his mandate ended on Friday.
