Divestiture process of Yarmouth ferry terminal crucial says port manager.

Friday, February 26th 2010

The manager of the port of Yarmouth says it's crucial to get the Yarmouth International Ferry Terminal back into local control. The terminal is owned by the federal government and leased to Bay Ferries. The town of Yarmouth along with the municipalities of Yarmouth, Clare and Argyle want the Yarmouth Industrial Commission to take ownership of the facility. Port Manager Dave Whiting says there appears to be a willingness on the part of Transport Canada to divest. Whiting says Bay Ferries has been on side with the divestiture plan for the last couple of years. When the divestiture of the port of Yarmouth was started in 1998 the ferry terminal was part of the package but for unknown reasons the terminal was pulled out of the process at the last minute.
