Yarmouth MLA fesses up on TV purchase.

Monday, February 8th 2010

Hurlburt, who apologized last week for spending nearly $8,000 on a generator, also charged taxpayers over $3,000 for the purchase and installation of a television.

Richard Hurlburt's name was included on a list of politicians who, according to the province's auditor general, used public money inappropriately or excessively.

The list was released by the Speaker's Office today after an order by Premier Darrell Dexter.

Hurlburt did not disclose the expense when he admitted to buying the generator, which was installed at his Yarmouth County home for $7,995.

The expense was one of several flagged in a report released last week by auditor general Jacques Lapointe.

Lapointe blamed lax and unclear rules surrounding members' expenses for the questionable claims.
