Nova Scotia’s branch of the Canadian Union of Public Employees has a new President.
Nan McFadgen, a licensed practical nurse from Pictou County was elected at the annual CUPE Convention held in Yarmouth.
McFadgen takes over from Dianne Frittenburg, who was named Vice-President.
She tells CJLS, her feelings on the provincial Liberal government prompted her to run.
Over 200 members of CUPE Nova Scotia attended the convention at the Rodd Grand Hotel, which began Sunday and wrapped up yesterday.
Guest speakers included CUPE National President Mark Hancock, NS Federation of Labour President Danny Cavanaugh and new provincial NDP leader Gary Burrill.
McFadgen says one CUPE member estimated the convention injected $400,000 into the local economy.
