Hunter Brothers Farm Celebrates Blue Jays 40th Season With Corn Maze

For the past 16 years, the Hunter Brothers Farm in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick, have made corn mazes and this year's maze is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Lee Hunter says his grandmother came up with the idea.

Hunter says his grandmother is the biggest Blue Jays fan, adding she's already been to three games this year.

The design stems from Jose Bautista's iconic bat flip from last season.

Bernard Smith Presented With French Legion Of Honour At Wedgeport Legion.

A Yarmouth County veteran has been presented with the French Legion of Honour.

Bernard Smith, a 94 year old World War II veteran is the fourth member of the Wedgeport Legion to receive the honour.

It was presented to Smith by West Nova MP Colin Fraser in front of a large crowd at the legion.

Smith was just 19 years old when he enlisted in the Canadian Army as a soldier in the service division.

He was there on D-Day in 1944.

Legion President Jerry MacKenzie says Smith is an amazing person.

Yarmouth's Bryan Hipson Preparing For Ironman World Championships In Hawaii

Bryan Hipson is on a roll.

The 50 year old Yarmouth man is off to the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii October 8th.

Hipson qualified by placing sixth in his age division recently at the Mont-Tremblant, Quebec Ironman Triathlon.

This adds to a great year for Hipson, who won the Bluenose Marathon in Halifax and the Shiela Poole 10k in Yarmouth.

Hipson says it's nice to do well at events.

"I try not to make too much or too little of it. It's nice to be able to see what you can achieve, and to do your best."

Yarmouth Minor Hockey Registration Night September 1st

A general registration night for Yarmouth County Minor Hockey is coming up.

It will be held September 1st from 6-8:30pm at Mariners Centre.

First time players, male or female, can register at half price.

New players do require a birth certificate.

Players that want to participate in competitive tryouts must register by this date.

Mariners Drop Wildcats 6-1 To Open Preseason

The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners opened their exhibition schedule on a winning note last night.

Aaron Maillet, Andrew Martell and Kyle Sexton each had a goal and an assist, as the Mariners took down the Valley Wildcats 6-1 in Berwick.

Jordan Messenger, Matthew Smith and Adamo Asselin also scored. Leif Hertz and Thompson Phinney split duties in goal.

Hertz gave up the game's first goal to former Mariner Donovan Rehill 2:14 into the first period, but Yarmouth would score the next six.

The teams meet again Friday at Mariners Centre in preseason play, 7:30pm.

Digby ER Closed Today

Digby General Hospital's emergency department is closed again today.

This marks the 21st time this year the department will be closed.

Physician availability is blamed once again.

The department is expected to re-open tonight at 8.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority says emergencies can be dealt with by calling 911 or visiting the nearest emergency room.

Canada Post, CUPW Reach Tentative Deals Averting Job Action

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post have reached tentative agreements, averting any possible job action.

Federal Labour Minister MaryAnn Mihychuk says, in a statement, that these deals were reached voluntarily by both sides.

CUPW was set to begin job actions earlier this week until a couple of 24-hour extensions were announced to allow the negotiations to continue.

Yarmouth Mariners Open Preseason Schedule Tonight In Berwick

With the roster trimmed after weekend intersquad games, the Yarmouth Junior A Mariners now focus on their exhibition schedule.

The Mariners hit the road for Berwick tonight to face the Valley Wildcats, game time is 7pm.

The game was originally supposed to be at the brand new Newport District Arena in Brooklyn, Hants County, however the building is not yet ready to open.

The Mariners will face the South Shore Lumberjacks on Thursday night in Bridgewater.
